Biomedical Engineer

• Design systems and products, such as artificial internal organs, artificial devices that replace body parts, and machines for diagnosing medical problems
• Install, adjust, maintain, repair, or provide technical support for biomedical equipment
• Evaluate the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of biomedical equipment
• Train clinicians and other personnel on the proper use of equipment
• Work with life scientists, chemists, and medical scientists to research the engineering aspects of biological systems of humans and animals
• Assist and facilitate the customer relationship between clinical staff and Biomedical Engineering for equipment service/management requirements
• Assist in the identification of practices necessary to enhance Biomedical Engineering practice with the goal of optimizing resource utilization and enhancing productivity
• Collaborate with other team members to optimize use of available resources
• Perform repair and maintenance on medical equipment which forms part of the inventory of a patient care program, and equipment belonging to other patient care programs as required
Required Skills
• Degree in related discipline from an accredited educational institution
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with a customer focus approach is essential
• Strong organizational skills combined with advanced problem solving abilities
• Comprehensive knowledge of the operating and maintenance practices and procedures for most medical equipment, current computer troubleshooting and networking
• Demonstrate ability to work independently on medical equipment
• Demonstrate ability to organize work
• Demonstrate ability to operate related equipment, including test equipment and tools
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position including good finger dexterity, close vision and colour discrimination
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple work activities, to completion, while meeting or exceeding deadlines
• Ability to work effectively inside a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Ability to effectively navigate dynamic requirements and priorities
• Strong organization skills, dependability, pro-active, self-motivated, and goal-oriented with attention to detail
